A British woman has come forward, alleging that Andrew Tate, a controversial social media influencer, choked her until she lost consciousness during a sexual encounter and subjected her to threatening behavior. The woman, who was 20 years old at the time, stated that she initially met Andrew Tate in August 2014. She claims that consensual sex turned violent when he choked her, and upon regaining consciousness, she found him still engaging in non-consensual sex with her, stating that she did not give her consent.
Andrew Tate vehemently denies the allegations against him, with his spokesperson stating that he does not condone violence towards women and that all sexual acts he engaged in were consensual.
The woman, who goes by the name Evie to protect her identity, revealed her experience to BBC Newsnight. She said she first encountered Mr. Tate when he worked as a club doorman in Luton, before he gained millions of followers as an influencer. Evie, a student at the time, engaged in consensual sex with Mr. Tate and later met him again at her flat towards the end of 2014.
During this encounter, she alleges that Mr. Tate placed his hand on her throat and strangled her. Evie describes feeling confused upon regaining consciousness, as he continued to engage in non-consensual sex with her.
Evie, now 30 years old, further claims that Mr. Tate subjected her to violent threats, including threats to kill her, until he left the following morning. She recalls him asserting ownership over her, using aggressive and derogatory language throughout the night. The next day, Evie noticed that the white part of one of her eyes had turned completely red.
At the time, Evie did not report the incident to the police, as she did not realize she had been a victim of a potential crime. It was only around six years later, when she shared the details of the incident with friends, that she began to understand it as a potential sexual assault.
Three individuals who know Evie and recall her describing the incident have informed her lawyers that they are willing to provide evidence in court. Evie aims to raise awareness about Mr. Tate and seek justice by sharing her experience.
Evie is among several British women involved in a planned lawsuit against Mr. Tate. The group, consisting of women in their late 20s and early 30s, alleges that they were victims of sexual violence by Mr. Tate between 2013 and 2016 while he resided in the UK.
In response to the allegations, Evie addressed Mr. Tate, stating that he will be held accountable for his actions. Mr. Tate, in a previous interview with BBC News, denied perpetuating a culture of misogyny and dismissed the testimonies of the women involved in the ongoing investigation.
Mr. Tate and his brother were arrested in Romania in December 2022 and are under investigation for suspected human trafficking, rape, and involvement in a criminal gang for the sexual exploitation of women. However, no charges have been filed against them to date, and they deny the allegations.
Mr. Tate’s spokesperson encouraged women who have experienced assault to report it to the relevant authorities. They expressed disappointment that women from nearly a decade ago are taking advantage of Mr. Tate’s current situation and stated that they will refrain from commenting on any alleged legal action unless it is submitted to the authorities.
