A Pakistani woman who had returned from the United States with her family was shot dead along with her sister in Faisalabad in a shocking double murder that police say stemmed from the husband’s suspicion over her phone calls.
The victim, identified as Sidra, a mother of four and a U.S. resident for the past 14 years, had recently arrived in Faisalabad with her husband, Usman, to attend a family wedding at her in-laws’ home.
According to police and family members, the wedding ceremony concluded peacefully, but two days later, a sudden argument erupted between the couple. Sidra’s sister Faiza, who was visiting the house, was also present when the dispute escalated.
Investigators say Usman became enraged during the argument and opened fire, shooting Sidra in the head and Faiza in the chest before fleeing the scene.
The shooting turned the wedding house into a scene of mourning within moments.
Police response and arrest
Police officers patrolling nearby reportedly heard gunshots and reached the house within minutes. Both sisters were found critically wounded and later pronounced dead.
Authorities initially detained Sidra’s father-in-law and mother-in-law over what police described as “suspicious statements” during questioning.
Usman was arrested a few hours later during a police operation.
Confession, but unclear motive
During interrogation, police say the suspect quickly confessed to the killings but initially refused to explain his motive.
When questioned the following day again, he reportedly told investigators he suspected Sidra’s character and believed her sister Faiza was somehow involved.
Police officials say the explanation has raised further questions.
Investigators are now examining phone records, family statements, and other evidence to determine whether the killings were the result of jealousy, a domestic dispute, or another motive.
Community shocked
The killings have shocked relatives and neighbors, who described Sidra as a quiet and devoted mother who had been living with her husband in the United States for over a decade.
What began as a joyful family wedding visit from abroad ended in tragedy, leaving four children without their mother and raising renewed concerns about domestic violence and suspicion-driven crimes within families.
Police say further investigations are ongoing and the suspect remains in custody.
