Yesterday, on my 45th birthday, I had the honor of laying my father to rest. It’s hard to describe my emotions, but I’ll try to do justice to the incredible life he lived. My father, Air Cmdre Sayed Sajad Haider, was a man of great distinction and celebration. He was famously known as “Nosy Haider” or the “Savior of Lahore”; his legacy will live on forever.
As I reflect on his life, I’m reminded of his many accomplishments. He was a decorated hero who devoted his life to Pakistan, serving as a fighter pilot in the 1965 and 1971 wars. His bravery and valor earned him a special place in the hearts of many. But my father was more than just a war hero – he was a best-selling author, a patriot, a loving brother, father, grandfather, and patriarch.

I’m grateful for the time we had together as a family. My father recently celebrated his 92nd birthday with all of us by his side, and it was a truly special moment. His passing leaves a huge void in our lives, but I’m comforted by the outpouring of love and support from people worldwide. Just checking Twitter, I’m amazed by the number of people whose lives he touched.
As a son, it’s hard to imagine life without my father. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and love. I hope that I made him proud, and I will strive to continue his legacy and work. I love him more than words can express, and I will miss him every day. My father may be gone, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
The Pakistan Air Force honored my father with a Services Funeral, a rare distinction reserved for national heroes. It was a fitting tribute to his remarkable life and service. As I said goodbye to my father, I knew that he had left an indelible mark on the world. He taught us what it means to live with dignity, integrity, and conviction. He was a true stalwart, a selfless person driven by passion and pursuit.
Rest in peace, dear father. May Allah have mercy on your soul and welcome you into heaven without hesitation. Your legacy will live on through us, and we will strive to make you proud. إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
