Solar panels are gaining popularity not only in Pakistan but also worldwide as more people shift toward solar energy systems. Now, exciting news from Japan reveals that scientists have developed flexible solar cells, paving the way for future use in wearable devices.
Researchers at Japan’s ” Riken Research Institute ‘have created a highly flexible solar cell that resembles a plastic bag and can be stretched to a considerable degree. To achieve this, they used a unique compound called ‘ION E,’ which was incorporated into the electrode layer of the solar cell. This compound not only increased the cell’s flexibility but did so without compromising its ability to generate electricity.
According to the research findings, this flexible solar cell retained 95% of its energy generation capacity, marking a major achievement in solar technology. Building on this success, the research team now plans to develop larger flexible solar cells.
Scientists believe that, if successful, this innovation could lead to the creation of advanced wearable devices powered by solar energy. Such devices would require little to no charging, significantly reducing electricity consumption.
These research findings have been published in the journal “Nature Communications”, and the development is anticipated to usher in a new era in solar energy technology.
