Massive layoffs at Dunya News Group as the channel’s management, citing financial difficulties, has terminated the several key members of its editorial and reporting staff.
It is pertinent to mention here that journalism sector in Pakistan has been declining for the past few years, thousands of journalists have been dismissed from their jobs and economic security has become an important issue for journalists.
The dismissals, which include prominent figures such as Editor Ahmed Hasan and Chief Reporter Abid Hussain, have left many employees grappling with concerns about their financial security.
The decision to dismiss a significant number of staff members has sent shockwaves through the journalistic community and raised concerns about the future of the affected individuals, particularly those who depend on their employment to sustain their livelihoods.
It was also reported that along with the editorial and reporting staff, sub-editors, page makers, and other essential personnel have also been handed their termination notices. The company, however, has provided them with dues payment cheques, which are expected to ease some of the immediate financial burdens they may face.
For many of these journalists, who live in rented accommodations, the sudden loss of their jobs has sparked considerable anxiety about their housing and livelihoods. Their well-being has become a topic of concern among their colleagues and peers.

Journalist organisations and members of the local press club have come together in response to these developments. They have announced a joint protest scheduled for this Friday, aiming to draw attention to the challenges faced by journalists in the wake of these dismissals.
The protest is expected to demand a resolution to the financial crisis at Dunya Group and call for the reinstatement of the affected employees.
Expressions of support and solidarity have poured in from various quarters of the media industry. Colleagues and well-wishers are hopeful that the protest will draw attention to the situation and lead to a resolution that ensures the welfare of the affected individuals.
In these difficult times, the affected journalists and their families are in the thoughts and prayers of many. It is hoped that a swift resolution to the crisis can be achieved, allowing them to regain their livelihoods and find stability once more.
Dunya News Group Stance on News Report
In response to the report, the Dunya Group clarified that the news about senior journalists’ dismissals does not present the complete picture. The decision was made to streamline operations by integrating the news and reporting desks of Dunya News and Roznama Dunya.
This integration resulted in overlapping staff roles, leading to a management decision to optimize staffing and right-size the organization accordingly.
