Luna-25 probe, Russia’s lunar mission, suffered a major setback as it crashed on the lunar surface during pre-landing maneuvers. Following the failure, one of the leading physicists and astronomers who worked on the mission, Mikhail Marov, aged 90, was hospitalized in Moscow due to a sharp deterioration in his health, which he attributed to the devastating setback.
This mission was Russia’s first attempt at lunar exploration in nearly half a century.

Marov expressed deep disappointment at the mission’s failure, considering it the culmination of his life’s work and a last hope to see the revival of Russia’s lunar program. He expressed hope that the crash’s causes would be thoroughly examined and discussed.
The Luna-25 mission was intended to mark Russia’s return to independent lunar exploration, following in the footsteps of its Soviet-era Luna program. However, communication with Luna-25 was abruptly lost, and it collided with the lunar surface, leaving the mission’s future uncertain.
The Russian space agency Roscosmos has announced its intention to launch an investigation into the crash’s causes but has not disclosed specific technical issues that may have led to the mission’s unfortunate outcome.
