The Punjab Police has put forward a bold proposal aimed at significantly increasing driving license fees to boost revenue and improve road safety measures.
Recently, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab forwarded a summary to the provincial government, seeking approval for the proposed fee hike across various license categories. If approved, substantial changes will be witnessed in the fees for different types of licenses.
Currently, the fee for a motorcycle driving license is Rs. 550. However, the proposed plan suggests a staggering 263.64% increase, raising it to Rs. 2,000.
Likewise, acquiring an LTV license would become notably more expensive, as the fee is proposed to be raised by 321.05% – from Rs. 950 to Rs. 4,000.
Aspiring to obtain an HTV license would also face a significant increase, with the fees soaring from Rs. 450 to Rs. 4,000, marking an astounding percentage rise of 788.89%.
The proposal does not spare learner licenses either. If approved, the fee for obtaining a learner license will rise from the current Rs. 60 to Rs. 500, showcasing an astonishing percentage change of 733.33%.
It’s important to note that the proposed fee hike encompasses not only domestic licenses but also International Driving Licenses. If the proposal receives the green light, obtaining an International Driving License would require a fee of Rs. 4,000, reflecting a noteworthy percentage increase from the existing amount.
