US President Donald Trump angrily confronted a female journalist after she repeatedly questioned him about his support for a controversial political advertisement targeting Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton.
According to reports, the incident occurred outside the White House as Trump was preparing to leave for a rally in Florida. The NBC News reporter, Monica Alba, asked him about a campaign advertisement promoted by Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
The advertisement features Acton’s estranged mother, Donna Arthur, criticizing her daughter. However, the advertisement has faced criticism because it does not address the background of the family dispute, which involves allegations of childhood sexual abuse against Acton’s stepfather.
When Alba continued asking questions about the issue, Trump criticized her news organization and described her as a “horrible little reporter.” He also told her to be quiet during the exchange.
Trump defended the advertisement, arguing that a mother’s criticism of her daughter was relevant to the political campaign. He also said that people criticizing the advertisement did not know all the facts.
The advertisement has drawn criticism from several political figures, including Republicans who have questioned the decision to use Acton’s painful family history in an election campaign. Acton’s campaign has also condemned the advertisement.
The confrontation adds to recent tensions between Trump and journalists over questions concerning political controversies and his administration. The incident has renewed discussion about the relationship between political leaders and the media, particularly the role of journalists in questioning public officials.
