Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s latest film, Udta Teer, has received a mixed but largely positive review from Bollywood Hungama, which awarded the spy comedy three out of five stars. Released on October 23, 2026, the film combines espionage, political satire and humour through an unusual storyline.
Directed by debutant filmmaker Akash A Kaushik, the movie follows Vikrant Thapar, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, who works as a senior officer in India’s Counter Terrorism Squad (CTS). However, Vikrant is secretly a Pakistani intelligence operative named Bilal Ahmed who has infiltrated the organisation.
The story takes an unexpected turn when Vikrant suffers an accident and loses his memory. Unaware of his actual identity, he begins believing that he is a loyal Indian intelligence officer. His actions create confusion and threaten the plans of his Pakistani handlers.
Sara Ali Khan plays Yamini, Vikrant’s wife, whose troubled relationship with him adds another dimension to the storyline. The supporting cast includes Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Rahul Bose and the late Mukul Dev.
According to Bollywood Hungama’s review, the film succeeds mainly because of its unusual concept, entertaining performances and humorous situations. The publication particularly appreciates the comic sequences involving Rahul Bose and Mukul Dev, describing them as some of the most enjoyable moments.
The review also highlights the film’s politically inspired humour, which adds another layer to its spy-comedy format. The screenplay, written by Akash A Kaushik, Gautam Govind Sharma, Dia Walia and Madhur Sharma, receives appreciation for its comic writing and entertaining dialogues.
However, the review points out that the narrative becomes less effective during the third act. It also suggests that certain developments in the second half could have been presented more simply to maintain clarity and audience engagement.
Despite these weaknesses, the director’s handling of comedy is identified as one of the film’s strongest qualities, particularly considering that this is his directorial debut.
Overall, Bollywood Hungama describes Udta Teer as an amusing spy comedy that benefits from its unconventional storyline and entertaining characters. Its three-star rating reflects a film that offers enjoyable moments while leaving room for improvement in storytelling and execution.
