The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to remove legal advisers appointed during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tenure and has directed all administrative departments to immediately de-notify them.
The provincial Law Department has sent a letter to all administrative secretaries, instructing them to de-notify the legal advisers and submit a report to the department.
According to the letter, recommendations for appointing legal advisers to government departments were made for the period from November 11, 2024, to September 17, 2026. The appointments were made on the recommendations of the scrutiny committee of the Advocate General’s Office.
The Law Department has directed all administrative departments to complete the de-notification process immediately and inform the department accordingly. It has also called for new appointments to be made soon to ensure the smooth continuation of official affairs.
Speaking to the media, Aamir Javed, legal adviser to the Governor’s Advisory Council, said lawyers would soon be appointed to government departments, following a process similar to that adopted by the Advocate General’s Office.
He stated that the appointment of government lawyers would be based on merit. He added that lawyers removed under the current decision could also be reappointed if they met the required merit criteria.
