US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are reportedly considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle, the American ambassador to Greece, following a series of allegations involving financial misconduct, questionable business dealings, and the possible misuse of political connections.
According to reports by TIME and the Associated Press, the controversy has created growing concerns within the Trump administration, with senior officials suggesting that a decision regarding Guilfoyle’s diplomatic future could be announced soon.
Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality and former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., became the first woman to serve as US ambassador to Greece in September 2025. However, her diplomatic career is now facing intense scrutiny following several investigative reports published by The Wall Street Journal.
One of the most serious allegations involves a reported request for $100,000 from businessman and Trump supporter Eric Deters. According to the reports, Guilfoyle allegedly asked Deters to settle her American Express credit card debt in exchange for helping him gain access to influential figures within the Trump administration.
Deters reportedly refused the payment, while Guilfoyle’s legal representatives have challenged the authenticity of the reported communications. Her lawyer maintained that the financial discussions concerned outstanding payments for appearances and events before her diplomatic appointment.
Additional allegations suggest that Guilfoyle promoted the interests of a Greek construction company, Aktor Group, during diplomatic engagements across southeastern Europe. Reports also questioned her involvement in luxury travel arrangements allegedly financed by wealthy businessmen.
However, representatives associated with Guilfoyle and the company have rejected allegations of improper conduct. The US Embassy in Athens has also maintained that she complied with State Department ethics and gift-reporting requirements.
The controversy has attracted attention from lawmakers across Washington. Democratic representatives have demanded greater transparency and investigations into the allegations, while Republican Senator John Barrasso has described the reports as deeply concerning.
Meanwhile, Trump has publicly avoided defending Guilfoyle, telling reporters that he had only recently learned about the controversy. Rubio has also declined to confirm the allegations, emphasizing the importance of establishing facts before reaching conclusions.
The State Department’s inspector general is reportedly examining the matter as questions surrounding diplomatic accountability continue to grow.
With the November congressional midterm elections approaching, the controversy presents another political challenge for the Trump administration.
For now, Guilfoyle remains ambassador to Greece, but her future appears increasingly uncertain as Washington considers whether the allegations warrant her removal.
