TRT World has promoted Ahmed Raza, programme editor in its News Output department, to the acting role of executive producer at its Istanbul headquarters.
The promotion caps more than a decade at the broadcaster, which he joined as an output producer in 2016 before becoming programme editor in January 2019. He brings more than 30 years of journalism experience to the role.
“Leadership is less about the title and more about responsibility,” Raza said, adding that his commitment remains to professional journalism, strong teams and a newsroom that keeps moving.
From Hyderabad to the BBC
Raza began his career in 1995 as a stringer correspondent for Daily Jang in Karachi, followed by roles at Daily Express, Daily The Mirror in Hyderabad and Daily Times. He also hosted a live morning show on FM 101 Hyderabad and reported for South Africa’s SABC.
In 2007, he joined the BBC World Service as a correspondent in Karachi, later moving to Islamabad and London as a multimedia producer for BBC Urdu, including its flagship current affairs programme Sairbeen.
Covering Pakistan’s defining moments
During 9 years with the BBC, Raza reported on some of Pakistan’s biggest stories, including the May 12 violence in Karachi, the Red Mosque operation, the October 2007 bombing of Benazir Bhutto’s homecoming rally, which he narrowly survived, the 2008 and 2013 general elections, the 2010 and 2011 floods and the aftermath of Osama bin Laden’s killing in Abbottabad.
A touch of humour
Announcing the news on LinkedIn, where he describes himself as “not an award-winning journalist at all,” Raza joked that his salt-and-pepper hair has mistaken the job for a full-time greying assignment. He thanked colleagues for making the profession worthwhile.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sindh.
Team MediaBites and SharjahNews congratulates Ahmed Raza on this new assignment.
