Renowned Pakistani playwright, writer, actor and humorist Anwar Maqsood has announced that his upcoming stage production, Thaana Na Dheem Thaana, will be his final stage drama, according to a report published by Daily Jang.
Maqsood made the announcement during a press conference in Karachi, where he explained that he had previously intended to end his stage drama career with House Arrest. However, circumstances led him to write another play.
The announcement has drawn attention to the latest theatrical project by one of Pakistan’s most recognised figures in literature, satire and entertainment. Maqsood is widely known for his distinctive humour, sharp social observations and contributions to television and theatre.
Although details about the new production, including its premiere date, venue, cast and ticket availability, were not provided in the report, the announcement has generated interest among audiences familiar with his long-standing creative career.
Maqsood has worked across several fields, including playwriting, satire, television hosting, acting, songwriting and painting. His artistic career spans more than five decades, during which he has established a prominent place in Pakistan’s cultural and entertainment landscape.
His writing is particularly associated with humour and commentary on social issues. Through his work, he has developed a recognisable style that combines wit with observations about society and everyday life.
Maqsood also comes from a distinguished literary family. His sisters include renowned writer Fatima Surayya Bajia, poet Zehra Nigah and Zubaida Tariq, who was widely known for her work in cooking and television.
His biography, Uljhay Suljhay Anwar, has also been published, documenting aspects of his life and career.
The announcement of Thaana Na Dheem Thaana marks another chapter in Maqsood’s extensive association with Pakistani theatre. While he had expected House Arrest to be his final stage production, the new announcement suggests that his creative journey on stage will include one more play.
