Pakistan’s military leadership has warned that any attempt to create a situation similar to the May 9 unrest will be dealt with decisively and according to law, as the army reviews the country’s security challenges.

The warning came during the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference, chaired by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the conference reviewed Pakistan’s internal and external security situation and reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to maintaining a high level of operational preparedness.
The forum reiterated Pakistan’s right to self-defense against terrorism and expressed its resolve to conduct targeted operations against terrorism originating from Afghanistan. It also stated that the Taliban leadership facilitating terrorism would be responsible for the consequences of its actions.
Warning over May 9-like situation
The commanders placed particular emphasis on internal stability, declaring that any attempt, under any pretext, to spread unrest or create a situation similar to May 9 would be dealt with decisively, without discrimination and in accordance with the law.
The conference also praised intelligence-based counterterrorism operations by law enforcement agencies and stressed that military measures must be supported by effective non-military measures.
These measures include people-focused governance at the grassroots level, stronger engagement with citizens, tackling the nexus between terrorism and crime, and improving police capabilities under the National Action Plan and Vision Azm-e-Istehkam, according to ISPR.
Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Kashmir discussed
The forum also welcomed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as an important development for strengthening mutual defense cooperation and strategic ties.
The commanders condemned Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, expressed solidarity with the Kingdom and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.
The forum also reviewed the situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The forum reiterated Pakistan’s stated position in favor of a settlement based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Asim Munir stresses modernisation
In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir praised the professional capabilities and operational preparedness of military formations.
He directed commanders to further strengthen intelligence-based operations and enhance defense capabilities through modern technology, improved training and multi-domain integration.
The army chief and defense forces chief expressed confidence that the armed forces, with what ISPR described as the nation’s support, remained prepared to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
