The death toll from devastating floods in Nepal’s border areas has risen to 903.
According to Nepali authorities, more than 2,500 people remain missing due to flash floods, while 933 workers are trapped at six locations of hydropower projects.
Officials said efforts are underway to rescue workers trapped inside tunnels at the hydropower projects.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s Ministry of Education said more than 200 students from educational institutions are missing following the floods.
According to Nepali authorities, several bodies have been recovered from the plains nearly 100 kilometers away from the affected areas after being swept away by floodwaters. More bodies are feared to be found.
The floods have caused extensive damage to schools, hospitals, hydropower plants, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure.
Nepal’s Foreign Minister said the country does not need foreign assistance for general search and rescue operations. However, external support is required to rescue people trapped inside tunnels, provide specialized technical assistance and transportation, and preserve and identify the bodies.
