Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said the PIMS nursery fire was a tragic incident and that an investigation is underway. He confirmed that 14 children have been reported dead following the fire.
According to Mustafa Kamal, electricity went out after the fire broke out in the PIMS nursery. He said hospital staff were present on duty despite the public holiday, while relevant authorities are in contact with the affected families.
An eight-member inquiry committee has been formed under the leadership of the Additional Deputy Commissioner General.
The committee has been tasked with determining the cause of the fire, reviewing safety arrangements, assessing the rescue response time and examining the firefighting operation. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 24 hours.
PIMS Executive Director Dr. Imran Sikandar said all aspects of the incident would be investigated. Authorities said firefighters and six ambulances took part in the rescue operation.
