A Quiet New Beginning in Islamabad
On a quiet evening this week, Senator Abid Sher Ali of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz stepped into a new chapter of his life. The senior leader remarried in a simple, private ceremony held at a local marquee in Islamabad. Only close family, relatives and a handful of friends were present.
The Bride and the Ceremony
The bride Saima Tariq Janjua, belongs to a well-regarded family from Haripur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She currently serves as Deputy Director Law at the Election Commission of Pakistan. Family sources describe the match as one built on existing ties between the two households. The event stayed modest. Abid’s father, veteran PML-N leader Chaudhry Sher Ali, along with his brothers and immediate relatives, attended to offer their blessings. No grand political gathering took place.
Five Years of Waiting
This is Abid Sher Ali’s second marriage. His first wife, Fatima, passed away in July 2021 after a heart-related illness. At the time, Abid was living in exile in London. He could not return for the funeral. The loss left him raising their three young children largely on his own. Friends and colleagues say the intervening years were spent focused on the children and his political work. The decision to remarry they note, came after careful thought and with the children’s well-being in mind.
Why Now?
Those close to the family say Abid sought companionship and a more complete home environment for his children after half a decade as a single parent. The choice of a bride from a non-political background in Haripur appears deliberate a private decision rather than a public statement. Party colleagues and social acquaintances have extended warm wishes, describing the occasion as a personal milestone rather than a political event.
Looking Forward
The ceremony ended with prayers for the couple’s future. For Abid Sher Ali, the evening marked the quiet close of one difficult chapter and the start of another. In a life often lived under public scrutiny, this moment remained deliberately personal a small gathering familiar faces and the hope of building something steady again.
