Karachi: Pakistan has marked a significant milestone in its maritime and trade sector with the arrival of its first Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) shipment carrying more than 2,000 electric vehicles (EVs) at Karachi Port.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced that the vessel MV Grande Shanghai successfully berthed at the KGTML Terminal of Karachi Port, where the country’s first-ever RoRo shipment of electric vehicles is being unloaded.
The minister described the development as a landmark achievement in Pakistan’s maritime and commercial history, highlighting the country’s growing adoption of modern logistics and port operations.
RoRo vessels are specially designed to allow vehicles to be driven directly on and off the ship, significantly reducing unloading time, lowering handling costs, and improving cargo efficiency compared to conventional shipping methods.
Chaudhry said the arrival of the first RoRo EV shipment represents a major step forward for Pakistan’s maritime trade and reflects ongoing efforts to modernize port infrastructure and strengthen the country’s logistics capabilities.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading Karachi Port with world-class shipping facilities, aiming to position Pakistan as a more competitive player in international trade and regional logistics.
