Pakistan’s digital media industry is witnessing fresh uncertainty after reports emerged that Nukta Pakistan, the digital news platform founded by veteran journalist Kamran Khan, is facing financial difficulties, with several senior employees allegedly going unpaid for the past three months.
According to claims circulating within media circles, a number of editors and senior staff members have reportedly stopped working after salaries for April, May, and June were allegedly not paid to employees whose compensation is processed through Dubai-based bank accounts.
The reported salary delays have sparked concerns about employee welfare and the platform’s day-to-day operations.
Two salary systems reportedly in place
According to the claims, Nukta Pakistan employees receive salaries through two different banking channels.
Staff members paid through Pakistani bank accounts have reportedly received their salaries, while employees whose payments are processed through Dubai bank accounts are allegedly still waiting for three months of outstanding salaries.
Those reportedly affected include senior editorial and management staff, including editors, the business editor, web head, production head, marketing head, and other key personnel.
Editors reportedly suspend work
Sources familiar with the matter claim that several editors have stopped working due to the prolonged salary delays, while some have reportedly stopped attending the office altogether.
The reports further allege that a meeting was held with Kamran Khan last week, during which employees sought clarity on when their outstanding salaries would be paid. However, according to the claims, no payment timeline was communicated.
It is further claimed that some employees later received Rs 50,000 each as an advance against their pending salaries.
Former employees are also reportedly awaiting dues
The reports also claim that some former employees, including the platform’s former Chief Editor and a longtime scriptwriter associated with Kamran Khan, have been seeking payment of outstanding dues, including final salaries and gratuity, for several months.
According to the allegations, repeated attempts to obtain these payments have yet to produce a resolution.
Why this story matters
The reported developments highlight the financial pressures facing parts of Pakistan’s rapidly evolving digital media industry, where sustainability, investment, and timely salary payments remain key challenges.
If confirmed, the alleged salary delays could affect newsroom morale, editorial operations, and the platform’s ability to retain experienced journalists.
MediaBites has not independently verified these claims. Nukta’s version and any clarification will be published on MediaBites.com.pk and shared across MediaBites’ social media platforms as soon as they are received.
