KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a sweeping overhaul of the government, confirming that Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko will step down as part of a broader Cabinet reshuffle aimed at advancing the country’s new political strategy.
In a statement posted on X, Zelensky said the changes were necessary to implement Ukraine’s evolving policy agenda more effectively. While he praised Svyrydenko for her “effective, consistent, and responsible” leadership over the past year, he did not reveal who would be nominated as the next prime minister.
The president said he had offered Svyrydenko a new role focused on relations with a key international partner, signaling that she would remain involved in the country’s leadership.
Zelensky also announced that major changes would extend beyond the Cabinet to include the leadership of Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies, though further details have not yet been disclosed.
An economist by profession, Svyrydenko became Ukraine’s prime minister in July 2025. Before taking office, she served as deputy head of the Presidential Office and previously held the position of deputy prime minister for economic development and trade.
The government reshuffle comes amid growing scrutiny over alleged high-level corruption. The so-called “Midas case” investigation has raised allegations of a $100 million kickback scheme involving the state-owned nuclear energy company.
The probe has reportedly mentioned several influential figures, including Zelensky’s former business associate Tymur Mindich and former Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak. All individuals named have denied the allegations.
Political analysts say the extensive reshuffle may also be intended to reassure Ukraine’s Western allies that the government is taking stronger action against high-level corruption while pursuing institutional reforms.
