ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a new revision in petroleum product prices, providing slight relief to motorists by reducing the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel, while increasing the price of kerosene oil.
According to an official notification issued by the government, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs1.97 per litre, bringing the new rate down to Rs297.97 per litre from the previous Rs299.50. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has also been cut by Rs1.97 per litre, lowering it from Rs311.47 to Rs309.50 per litre.
However, in contrast to the reduction in transport fuels, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has approved an increase in the price of kerosene oil. Under the latest notification, kerosene has become Rs4.09 per litre more expensive, raising its price from Rs227.05 to Rs231.14 per litre.
The revised prices have come into effect immediately and are applicable from today. Petrol is widely used by private vehicle owners and motorcycle riders across the country, while high-speed diesel is the primary fuel for heavy transport, buses, trucks, agricultural machinery, and parts of the industrial sector. Even a small reduction in diesel prices can have an impact on transportation and logistics costs.
Meanwhile, the increase in kerosene prices is expected to affect households and communities that rely on the fuel for cooking, heating, and lighting, particularly in remote and mountainous regions where access to natural gas remains limited.
The government periodically reviews petroleum prices based on recommendations from OGRA and fluctuations in international oil markets, exchange rates, and other pricing factors before issuing revised rates through official notifications.
