A 13-year-old boy has died in Bahaawalpur district of Punjab following alleged severe torture by a religious teacher (Qari), sparking outrage and a police investigation.
According to media reports, the incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Masafir Khana Police Station. Police and forensic teams immediately reached the scene after being alerted. The deceased child has been identified as Hasnain.
Family members, particularly the boy’s grandfather, stated in an initial statement that the child had been studying and residing at the madrassa for the past six months. He alleged that the Qari subjected the child to brutal physical torture and further claimed that the boy’s tongue was cut during the assault.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bahawalpur Rana Abdul Wahab took immediate notice of the incident and directed swift action. Police have arrested the Qari along with two other individuals connected to the madrassa and have launched a full investigation.
The body of the deceased has been shifted to THQ Hospital Ahmadpur Sharqia for postmortem examination, while further legal proceedings are underway.
