A horrifying case of family violence has emerged from village 25 South near Bhagtanwala, where a man allegedly killed his wife and five children with an axe, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Police sources identified the suspect as Yaseen, who allegedly carried out the brutal killings late Sunday night inside his home.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect told authorities that he committed the murders in the name of ‘honor’, claiming his approximately 35-year-old wife and 16-year-old daughter had illicit relations with a man identified as Ghulam Mustafa.
Planned attack, police say
Investigators say the suspect admitted he had been suspecting his wife and daughter for several days and had allegedly planned the attack in advance.
According to police officials, Yaseen told investigators that he sharpened the axe at a carpenter’s shop before the incident to ensure he could carry out the killings.
Authorities say the suspect attacked his wife and children inside their home, killing them in what police described as a “brutal and deeply disturbing act.”
Villagers reject the allegations
However, local residents strongly disputed the suspect’s claims, saying the victims were known as decent and respectable members of the community.
“His wife was a very respectable woman, and the children were well-behaved,” one villager said. “No one in the village had ever heard such allegations about them.”
Many villagers described Yaseen as unusually suspicious and temperamental, alleging that he frequently mistreated his family.
Residents believe his extreme suspicion and mistrust may have led him to commit the horrific crime.
Suspect doubted his children’s parentage
According to investigators, the suspect also claimed he believed the children were not biologically his, allegedly suspecting they were the result of his wife’s supposed extramarital relationship.
Police say this belief may have been a factor in the killing of the children as well.
Villagers intervene
After the killings, the suspect allegedly locked himself inside the house and informed a friend about the incident.
When relatives and villagers arrived at the scene, they reportedly tried to rescue the children and attacked the suspect with an iron rod, leaving him injured.
The suspect was later taken into custody and received medical treatment. Authorities say his condition is currently stable.
Investigation underway
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the killings, which have deeply traumatized the community.
The tragedy has also reignited debate in Pakistan about domestic violence, so-called honor killings, and the devastating consequences of unchecked suspicion and abuse within families.
Authorities say the suspect will face strict legal action as the investigation continues.
