What began as a defiant love story has spiraled into a bloody family feud in Lahore’s Rana Town, leaving one young man dead, another critically injured, and two families consumed by grief and calls for revenge.
According to police and family members, Hamza married Iqra two years ago in a love marriage that defied strong opposition from the bride’s family. The couple reportedly tied the knot through a court marriage after repeated attempts to win over Iqra’s parents and brothers failed.
Hamza brought his new bride home to Rana Town, where his family accepted her and welcomed her into the household. But the union, relatives say, ignited a bitter conflict with Iqra’s family, who allegedly saw the marriage as a blow to their honor.
Threats that turned into gunfire
According to the family, tensions had simmered for months. Hamza’s in-laws allegedly sent repeated warnings, claiming he had “taken away their honor” and vowing revenge.
That threat, relatives say, turned into a nightmare two days ago.
Hamza was sitting at a shop near his home with his cousin Ahmed when two armed men arrived on a motorcycle. Witnesses say one of them was Iqra’s brother.
Without warning, the attackers allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, sending bullets tearing through the small shop before fleeing the scene.
One cousin dead, husband fighting for life
When the shooting stopped, Hamza lay wounded outside the shop. But when people entered the store moments later, they found Ahmed collapsed on the floor, soaked in blood.
Both victims were rushed to Mayo Hospital, one of Lahore’s largest emergency facilities.
Doctors confirmed Ahmed had died from his injuries. Hamza, meanwhile, remains in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Pregnant wife demands justice
The tragedy has torn apart the young couple’s fragile world.
Iqra, who is reportedly pregnant, has made a shocking allegation: she claims the attacker was her own brother.
Speaking through relatives, she demanded swift justice for the attack that nearly killed her husband and took the life of his cousin.
“My heart will only find peace when the man who shot my husband is punished,” she reportedly said.
A mother’s cry for revenge
On the other side of the tragedy stands Ahmed’s grieving mother, whose pain has turned into fury.
“My son wasn’t even married yet,” she said, weeping. “Bring my son’s killer before me and give me a pistol. I will shoot him myself, even if they hang me afterward.”
The anguished mother said she no longer trusts the slow wheels of the courts and demanded immediate action from the Punjab Police and authorities in Punjab.
Love story turned tragedy
What started as a couple’s determination to marry for love has now left two families shattered.
One young man lies dead. Another fights for life.
And behind the gunfire, police say, lies a bitter dispute over honor, tradition and a marriage that some relatives never accepted.
