Police have arrested a married man and his wife for the murder of a 17-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Raiwind last month, officials said.

According to police, the girl had left school after basic education and was working as a SIM card seller. During this time, she developed a relationship with a man who was already married and the father of two children. The man would often take her from home and later drop her back. Over time, the girl began staying away from home for one or more days at a time.

Police said the girl’s parents, an ailing father and her mother, did not stop her firmly despite her repeated absences.

In the last week of December, the girl left home and did not return for five days. Her parents then filed a missing person report but were unable to provide the police with phone numbers or the address of the man, as the girl was using a mobile phone given to her by him.

Days later, the man contacted the parents and claimed that the girl had died after falling in a bathroom at his house. Police were informed and stopped the family from burying the body without investigation.

Female police officers noticed suspicious marks on the body, and a post-mortem examination later confirmed evidence of physical assault and abuse. During interrogation, police learned that the girl had been demanding money from the man, who said he could not meet her demands due to limited income and family responsibilities.

Police said an argument over money led to violence, during which the girl suffered fatal injuries. The man’s wife was present at the scene at the time of the incident.

Both the man and his wife were taken into custody. The woman has been sent to jail after being formally charged, while the main suspect remains in police remand. The victim’s body has been handed over to her parents for burial.

Police said the case highlights serious social and family issues and that further investigation is ongoing.
