New Medical Glue Heals Broken Bones Faster Than Surgery

A revolutionary medical innovation from China could soon change the way fractures are treated. Researchers in Zhejiang Province have developed a bone healing glue called “Bone-02” that can repair broken bones within just three minutes.

The discovery is being hailed as a major leap forward in orthopedic surgery, providing a less invasive alternative to screws, plates, and rods.

The project was led by Lin Xianfeng, associate chief orthopedic surgeon at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, who explained that the inspiration came from observing oysters. These creatures cling strongly to underwater surfaces, even in wet and harsh environments.

Using this natural model, the team created a fracture treatment adhesive that works in blood-rich conditions, where traditional adhesives usually fail.

Unlike metal implants, Bone-02 dissolves naturally as the bone heals, removing the need for a second surgery and reducing complications.

Clinical Trials Prove Effectiveness of Bone-02

Extensive trials have been conducted on more than 150 patients, with both laboratory and clinical results showing excellent outcomes.

• Procedures that would normally take hours were completed in under three minutes.

• The glue showed a bonding force over 400 pounds, shear strength of 0.5 MPa, and compressive strength of around 10 MPa.

These results suggest that Bone-02 could replace traditional implants, while lowering risks of infection, rejection, and long recovery periods.

Until now, doctors have relied on bone cements and fillers, but none have worked as a true adhesive. Earlier attempts since the 1940s with materials like gelatin and epoxy resins failed due to poor compatibility with the human body.

By contrast, Bone-02 combines strength, speed, and biocompatibility, making it a safe and effective solution for modern orthopedic treatment.

Experts believe that if widely adopted, Bone-02 could shorten surgeries, reduce complications, and transform how fractures are repaired worldwide.

Although Bone-02 still requires global clinical adoption and regulatory approval, its success in trials has generated excitement.
