A new HBL Fake App Scam is targeting Pakistani banking customers through deceptive ads on Facebook. The fraudulent campaign promotes a fake version of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) mobile application, falsely advertised as the “updated 2025 version.” This phishing attempt is designed to steal sensitive banking details, including card numbers, CVV codes, and expiry dates.
HBL Fake App Scam – How the Fraud Works
The malicious ad, although removed from Facebook, redirected users to a phishing website that mimicked HBL’s official branding. Unlike HBL’s legitimate website https://www.hbl.com, the fake site used a suspicious URL and showcased images of HBL debit and credit cards to appear authentic.
Data Stolen by the Fake HBL 2025 App
Victims visiting the fraudulent site are asked to provide:

After submission, users are told they will be contacted for OTP verification within 1–2 hours, giving scammers direct access to financial data.
HBL’s Official Statement on the Fake Banking App
Ali Habib, Spokesperson HBL, confirmed:
“This is a fake app. We continuously educate our clients to only download the HBL Mobile app from trusted sources such as Google Play or the Apple App Store. At HBL, our clients’ data security remains our primary concern.”
HBL further emphasized that no separate “2025 version” of its mobile application has been released.
