Panic buttons in women’s colleges are now being installed in Lahore as part of a major safety initiative by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). Following the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, 39 women’s colleges and universities have already been equipped with the system. The project will expand to more than 450 institutions across Punjab in the coming phases.
The panic buttons in women’s colleges are directly connected to the PSCA’s central control room. When pressed, the alert immediately reaches the Virtual Women Police Station, triggering a rapid response from the police. This setup is especially useful in situations where students may not have access to mobile phones.
According to the PSCA, such panic button systems are already operational at 122 locations in Lahore and 101 in other cities. Extending this technology to educational institutions represents a major step in strengthening Punjab’s public safety network.
Officials said this move reflects the government’s broader focus on using technology to ensure safety. And peace of mind for students. The aim is to create a secure academic environment where young women feel protected and confident while pursuing their education.
This initiative is being seen as a milestone in safeguarding women on campuses. And a practical solution to address emergency situations swiftly. Punjab’s leadership has emphasized that student security will remain a top priority in all future policies.
