OpenAI has introduced a powerful new feature called ChatGPT Agent, which can now handle complicated tasks for users. This upgraded AI doesn’t just chat—it works like a smart assistant that can manage your calendar, shop online, plan events, analyze data, and even create slide presentations.
This new agent uses a “virtual computer” to complete tasks from beginning to end. It can browse websites, run code, and connect with tools like Gmail or Google Calendar. For example, in a demo, it planned a date night by checking the user’s availability, finding restaurants, and booking a table—all while asking for confirmation before finalizing anything.
ChatGPT Agent is available now for Pro users, who get 400 monthly messages. Plus and Team users will get 40 messages a month. Enterprise and Education plans will get access soon.
To use it, you can enable “agent mode” from the tools menu inside ChatGPT. While the system can perform many tasks automatically, it always asks before making important decisions like purchases.
It runs on OpenAI’s servers in a protected environment, so it doesn’t access your personal files or computer. It also includes strong security measures to block unsafe actions and prevent hacking tricks.
Although it’s a major step forward, OpenAI says the system isn’t perfect. In some cases, it may still struggle with very complex jobs. But with strong performance in early tests—like scoring well in advanced exams and data science tasks—it shows great potential.
With ChatGPT Agent, OpenAI says:
“It’s not just a chatbot anymore—it’s a digital assistant that works for you.”
