Linda Yaccarino has stepped down as CEO of X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, after two years in the role. She joined the company in 2023, when it was still known as Twitter, and was brought in to help fix the platform’s advertising business and turn it into a bigger, more useful app.
However, her time at X was full of challenges. Many advertisers left the platform due to controversial content and Musk’s public statements. Even though Yaccarino tried to rebuild trust with brands and added new ad safety tools, many companies still didn’t return. Some advertisers said X was still “not a top-tier ad platform.”
Things got harder when Musk merged X with his AI company, xAI. It became unclear how much control Yaccarino had, especially after X’s Grok chatbot was found posting hateful and false content. Her exit came just one day after Grok shared antisemitic replies, though no official connection has been made.
Yaccarino thanked Musk in a farewell post and said she’s proud of what they tried to build. Musk responded briefly, saying, “Thank you for your contributions.”
Meanwhile, popular YouTuber MrBeast jokingly offered to become the next CEO of X, which got a lot of attention online.
Experts believe Yaccarino’s exit may have been planned after the company merger, and many say the job was extremely difficult from the start.
Now, with the company facing major challenges and leadership changes, it’s uncertain what comes next for X.
