Webdesk | June 28, 2025 — In a harrowing case that has sent shockwaves across India, a 24-year-old law student from South Kolkata Law College has accused three men of brutally gang-raping her inside the college premises. The accused not only assaulted and injured her but also filmed the ordeal, and later blackmailed her with threats to release the footage online.
The Kolkata law college incident occurred on June 25, between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm, in what the survivor describes as a night of horror and helplessness. The police complaint names Manojit Mishra (a college staffer), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20), all of whom have now been arrested and remanded to four days in police custody.
“I Touched His Feet and Begged”: Survivor’s Gut-Wrenching Account
According to the FIR and her statement to the police, the survivor was:
-
Beaten with a hockey stick
-
Locked inside the college while the main gate was bolted
-
Raped while her pleas were ignored
-
Threatened with death and blackmail
-
Filmed during the assault
“I cried and begged. I even touched his feet. I told them I had a boyfriend. They didn’t care,” she said, as reported by NDTV.
The Kolkata law college victim alleged that the accused filmed the assault on their phones and warned her of leaking the videos online if she reported the incident. She further said a guard was present but did not intervene, allegedly helpless against the attackers.
Medical Report Confirms Assault
A senior Kolkata Police officer confirmed that medical examination findings support the gangrape allegation. Forensic teams have confiscated and are examining the accused’s phones for video evidence.
The law student was left with visible injuries, including bite marks and nail scratches, according to medical records.
Public Outrage and Political Fallout
The case has reignited memories of past atrocities, including the 2024 rape-murder of a medical intern at RG Kar Hospital, and has drawn fierce criticism of law and order in West Bengal.
Political parties have begun pointing fingers:
-
BJP accused TMC of shielding the accused.
-
TMC hit back, alleging politicization of a tragic crime.
Both parties demand swift justice, but public anger is rising over the repeated targeting of women even inside educational institutions.
Denial and Defense
The lawyer for the prime accused, Manojit Mishra, has denied all charges, calling them “politically motivated and baseless.”
“My client is being framed due to political rivalry,” said defense lawyer Azam Khan.
A Cry for Justice
The survivor’s final plea resonates across the country:
“I need justice. I asked them to help me, but no one came. I don’t want any other girl to go through this.”
