Russian President Vladimir Putin refused to address speculation that Israel or the U.S. may attempt to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Speaking at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin said, “I do not even want to discuss this possibility.”
Despite rising tensions and Israeli strikes that have killed over 580 people, including 239 civilians, Putin emphasized Iran’s internal unity and urged a political solution. “There is a consolidation of society around the country’s political leadership,” he said.

Putin has positioned himself as a potential mediator in the conflict, though leaders like Donald Trump have dismissed this due to Russia’s close ties with Tehran. he stressed any solution must ensure Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear development and Israel’s unconditional security.
Although Russia signed a strategic partnership with Iran in January, he confirmed no weapons have been supplied. However, Moscow continues to assist with Iran’s civilian nuclear program.
Despite recent Israeli airstrikes, he said Iran’s underground nuclear facilities remain intact. Over 200 Russians continue to work safely at the Bushehr nuclear plant, thanks to an agreement with Israel guaranteeing their protection.
Putin remains committed to a diplomatic resolution amid deepening regional instability.
