Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of millions of Ismaili Muslims worldwide, was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Aswan, Egypt, on February 9, 2025. His passing was announced earlier by the Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili community.
Prince Karim Aga Khan born on December 13, 1936, in Geneva, Switzerland, became the 49th Imam of the Nizari Ismaili Muslims in 1957, succeeding his grandfather at the age of 20. Throughout his life, he was renowned as a business magnate and philanthropist, establishing the Aga Khan Development Network, which operates in over 30 countries focusing on healthcare, education, and rural development.

Following his passing, his 53-year-old son, Rahim Al-Hussaini, has been named as the Aga Khan V. Born on October 12, 1971, Rahim Aga Khan has been actively involved in the family’s philanthropic endeavors, particularly in poverty alleviation and environmental initiatives.
He holds a degree in Comparative Literature from Brown University and an MBA from the Navarra Business School in Barcelona. His leadership is anticipated to continue the legacy of his father, emphasizing development and humanitarian efforts within the Ismaili community and beyond.
The global Ismaili community now looks to Rahim Aga Khan for spiritual guidance and leadership, as he steps into his role as the 50th hereditary Imam.
