Australian Govt has passed a bill in the House of Representatives banning children under the age of 16 from using social media.
This special bill was approved with 102 votes in favor, compared to 13 against. Under this law, authorities must establish a security system within one year to prevent underage children from accessing social media platforms.
According to foreign media, if social media platforms fail to comply with the ban, they could face a fine of up to $33 million. Once approved by the Senate, this law will become the first of its kind not only in Australia but also in the world to regulate the social media usage of minors.
This law raises an important question: Do we care about our youth? By taking this step, Australia has moved forward in protecting the mental and emotional well-being of young generation, setting an example for other countries around the world.
