The military announced on Friday that former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed will undergo a court martial following a thorough investigation into his alleged wrongdoing.
The ISPR stated that the Pakistan Army has started a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) against Hameed after conducting a thorough investigation.
The inquiry was initiated following directives from the Supreme Court of Pakistan to investigate grave allegations concerning the Top City housing project.
The controversy surrounding the Top City
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered a probe into the alleged misbehavior of Retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed in relation to the Top City housing scheme issue.
The controversy revolves around allegations against Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed and his colleagues regarding the raid on Top City Housing Scheme. In 2023, Moeez Ahmed Khan, who owns the housing scheme, filed a petition with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s bench, accusing a serious violation of legal behavior.
Khan argued that in May 2017, Rangers officials and ISI agents carried out an unauthorized search at the Top City office and Kunwar Khan’s residence, who was a significant individual linked to the plan.
As per the petition, the security forces confiscated valuable objects such as gold, diamonds, and money, alleging they were connected to a terrorism probe.
Following this, Sardar Najaf, who is Hameed’s sibling, supposedly got in touch with Kunwar Khan, along with a brigadier, to set up a meeting. In this meeting, Hameed allegedly agreed to give back some of the seized items but allegedly kept 400 tolas of gold and a substantial amount of money.
Kunwar Khan has charged Hameed with wrongful legal action and claimed that former ISI brigadiers Naeem Fakhar and Ghaffar coerced him to provide 4 crores in cash and back a private TV station. The petition also brings attention to the alleged participation of many ex-ISI officials in an illegal seizure of the Top City Housing Society.
