Aynur Mustafa, a Human Resource Officer with a respectable academic record and excellent communication skills, has resigned from Scotiabank on moral grounds.
With experience in various organizations’ HR departments, Aynur shared the news of her resignation on LinkedIn.
After much reflection, I made the difficult decision to resign from my role as a Human Resource Officer at Scotiabank
This choice stemmed from a deep concern over the bank’s investments in Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons manufacturer. Elbit produces some of the world’s most deadly bombs and weapons, which are being used in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
These investments are not only deeply troubling on a moral level but also contradict Scotiabank stated commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Investing in companies that fuel violence and suffering is in direct opposition to the values we should uphold as a society.
While this was a tough decision, I believe it’s essential to align our professional actions with our personal ethics. I hope my decision sparks a broader conversation about the importance of ethical investments and corporate responsibility.
I am now seeking a new work placement with an organisation that upholds its moral principles and is genuinely committed to making a positive impact on the world.
