Dubai Metro services continue to face disruptions following the unprecedented rainfall in the UAE last week. The adverse weather conditions brought the city’s transportation system to a near standstill, leaving many commuters stranded and causing extensive delays at various stations across the emirate.
While the Red Line of the Dubai Metro has resumed operations in both directions, four stations – Onpassive, Equiti, Al Mashreq, and Energy – remain closed. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the metro service is operational from Centrepoint to Expo 2020 and UAE exchange stations.
Commuters traveling from Centrepoint Metro station are required to change stations at Business Bay or Al Khail stations. From there, they must utilize shuttle buses to reach their intended destination. However, many commuters have complained about the infrequent shuttle services, exacerbating their travel difficulties.
Khaleej Times journalist Laraib Anwer observed overcrowding at Abu Hail station on Monday morning. Metro authorities directed passengers to wait on the ground level before granting them access to the platforms. Some commuters endured waits of over 20 minutes before being allowed onto the platforms.
As the Dubai Metro works to restore full service, commuters are advised to stay informed about updates and plan their journeys accordingly. The ongoing disruptions underscore the importance of alternative transportation options and the need for improved contingency measures during adverse weather events.
