For the past few weeks, ARY Digital’s drama Parwarish has captivated audiences with a narrative that strikes deep into the heart of almost every Pakistani household. While its storyline and direction are commendable, the real magic lies in the phenomenal performances of the young cast, proving that Pakistani drama no longer needs ‘big names’ to guarantee success.
At the center of this gripping family saga are Samar Abbas Jafri as Wali and Aina Asif as Maya. From the very first episode, Samar Jafri’s natural and consistent acting stands out, while Aina Asif impresses deeply, albeit with occasional overacting, still delivering a powerful portrayal of Maya. These two emerging stars are undeniably the bright future of Pakistani drama.
Supporting them are Nooray Zeeshan as Aania, playing a deeply confused, depressed girl grappling with parental conflicts, Reham Rafiq as Amal, and Abul Hasan as Sameer, whose mischievous yet endearing performance adds charm and balance to the emotional intensity. Their characterizations and expressions are a visual treat, elevating the drama’s overall impact.
Among the seasoned actors, Savera Nadeem and Nauman Ejaz shine with their dependable performances as Mahnoor and Jahangir. But it is Shamim Hilali as the quintessential Pakistani mother-in-law who steals hearts, delivering perhaps the best performance of her career, surpassing even Bushra Ansari’s portrayal in Kabhi Mein Kabhi Tum. Arshad Mehmood, as Dada, complements her beautifully, creating a dynamic that resonates with many.
Another standout is Saad Zameer as Suleman (Chacha) — his screen presence and acting finesse are comparable to some of Bollywood’s best. Saman Ansari as Pannah (Chachi) also impresses with her graceful and composed portrayal.
Moreover, Maya and Aania’s father, played by Nazar Ul Hassan as Shaheer, alongside his wife Sadia, portrayed by Bakhtawar Mazhar, and Haleema Ali as Mashal, all delivered impactful performances whenever given the opportunity. Acting opposite such stellar leads is never easy, yet they held their own with remarkable skill. Overall, the performances in Parwarish have collectively set a new benchmark for acting in Pakistani dramas.
With its relatable storytelling, dynamic direction, and power-packed performances, Parwarish has not only become a household favorite in Pakistan but has also gained attention across the border. The drama is a testament to the emerging young talent of Pakistan, setting a new benchmark for the industry.
