Three Sabri Qawwals were killed in a tragic Kalat bus attack, highlighting Balochistan’s worsening security situation. The incident raises concerns over public safety and the need for stronger law enforcement measures.

Tragedy struck Balochistan once again as a passenger bus travelling from Karachi to Quetta was attacked near Kalat, claiming the lives of three passengers, including two well-known Karachi-based Sabri qawwals, and leaving 13 others injured.
According to SSP Kalat Shahzad Akbar, the deceased include Ahmed Hussain Sabri, his son Ahmed Raza Sabri, and another musician. They were on their way to Quetta for a wedding performance when the unfortunate incident occurred on the Quetta-Karachi highway near Nemargh.
“My brother, nephew, and one of our musicians were killed in the attack,” said a heartbroken Majid Ali Sabri, speaking to media. He added that some of his close relatives and fellow artists were also injured.
Officials and eyewitnesses reported that armed attackers had ambushed the bus, taking positions on both sides of the highway before opening indiscriminate fire.
The attack came on the same day that security forces conducted an operation in Awaran, where three terrorists affiliated with the India-backed proxy group “Fitna al Hindustan” were neutralized. The operation also claimed the life of Major Syed Rub Nawaz Tariq, who embraced martyrdom while leading his team, as confirmed by the ISPR.
Security challenges persist in Balochistan
This recent tragedy is yet another reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, where sporadic incidents of violence continue to threaten peace and stability. The frequency of such attacks, particularly on passenger buses, raises serious concerns about the safety of ordinary citizens and travellers.
Observers point out that better coordination and focused attention from the federal and provincial authorities are essential to restore confidence among the public. There is growing public sentiment that more dedicated efforts and resources are needed to tackle these security threats effectively.
While the Interior Ministry manages multiple national portfolios, including security and other administrative roles, there is a call for greater prioritization of law and order in sensitive regions like Balochistan.
The incident has sparked grief not only among the artistic community but across the country, with many lamenting the loss of talented musicians and innocent lives.
As Balochistan continues to face complex security dynamics, stakeholders across the board emphasize the need for collective efforts, strategic policy, and stronger on-ground presence to ensure lasting peace.
