Recently, I saw a video featuring Honey Singh and Mehvish Hayat together, in which Yo Yo Honey Singh was praising Mehvish quite a bit, giving off a very positive vibe. At first, I didn’t understand why he was complimenting her so much. But , when I saw the teaser for his upcoming song “Jatt Mehkma,” it became clear, he was praising her because he had cast her in his video after asking her to shed her clothes.
If singers have fallen so low that they resort to objectifying women and undressing them just to gather views, then they should probably stop making music altogether. Songs are meant to be listened to, and a real singer should have enough confidence in their voice to release a song purely in audio and still expect it to succeed. And it will succeed, provided the singer has talent. But if there’s no melody, no rhythm, meaningless lyrics, and practically no tune, then they’re left with no option but to feature various women in skimpy attire to create hype.
It’s somewhat understandable for Honey Singh, he’s done this throughout his career. But what’s disappointing is that Mehvish Hayat couldn’t see through this and agreed to such an extent, all for a song. And this is only the teaser; who knows what more she’ll end up revealing in the full music video. Social media is already abuzz with criticism about her attire, yet our Pakistan government still calls up such celebrities and hands them national medals.
