Gladys McGarry, a 102-year-old American doctor, attributes her long and healthy life to a few simple habits, including consuming ample amounts of water, regular exercise, and following a healthy diet.
According to McGarry, maintaining a routine focused on good health and strength is key. She recently published a book titled “The Good Life,” which she started writing two years ago. The book shares six secrets for health and happiness at every age.
McGarry emphasizes that her approach doesn’t involve any secret superfoods or special ingredients. Instead, she believes that drinking plenty of water is crucial. Keeping the body well-hydrated helps prevent future health problems.
“My routine is quite simple. I do stretching exercises in the morning, followed by a healthy, high-fiber meal and a cup of coffee before starting my work,” McGarry explained.
During lunchtime, she opts for a nutritious meal such as a salad or occasionally something more substantial, followed by an hour-long nap. McGarry ensures she walks approximately 3,800 steps each day, mostly within her home.
For dinner, she prefers a lighter meal to avoid sleeping on a full stomach. She typically retires to bed at 8 p.m., acknowledging that even a short amount of sleep is sufficient, especially as we age and require less rest.
McGarry stresses the importance of hydration, stating, “Insufficient hydration can lead to a variety of future problems. Our bodies consist mostly of water, and they need water to function properly. Without adequate hydration, memory problems, confusion, and other health issues may arise.”
She emphasizes that access to clean drinking water is a simple matter in countries like the United States, contributing to overall health and well-being. McGarry personally ensures she stays hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of water. This, combined with pursuing her goals, running her business, and maintaining an active lifestyle, keeps her vitality and health alive.
