Lahore (MediaBites)- In a touching tribute to the late Ratan Tata, Pakistani singer Zoheb Hassan, brother of the iconic Nazia Hassan, shared fond memories of their first encounter with the legendary Indian industrialist. Zoheb’s heartfelt post reveals how Tata played a pivotal role in the success of their groundbreaking album, Young Tarang.
Zoheb recalled the moment their mother informed them about a phone call from a man named Ratan Tata. At the time, they had no idea who this “Mr. Ratan” was. Ratan Tata, who was in the process of starting CBS India, expressed his desire for Nazia and Zoheb to record an album for his new music venture. Despite his immense status, Tata remained humble and never boasted about his accomplishments.
The duo eventually met with Tata, a tall and impeccably dressed man with a gentle smile. He displayed sincerity and encouraged them to ensure their parents and a lawyer reviewed the agreement before moving forward with the project. This led to the creation of Young Tarang, an album that took India and South Asia by storm. With MTV USA expressing interest and Doordarshan playing their music videos, the album outsold even their previous hit, Disco Deewane.
During the album’s launch at The Taj Hotel in Mumbai, Zoheb and Nazia finally learned the true identity of Mr. Ratan Tata, one of the most influential industrialists in India. Tata later invited them for a humble dinner at his residence, a modest two-bedroom flat that left the siblings surprised by his simplicity despite his immense wealth and power.
Zoheb also shared a memorable encounter with Tata on Bond Street in London, where Tata, in his usual humble manner, mentioned he was in town to look at airplanes. It was only later that Zoheb realized Tata was purchasing planes for Air India, which he owned at the time.
Zoheb Hassan concluded his tribute by calling Ratan Tata a true gentleman who, despite being a business icon, remained humble and grounded. He expressed deep sorrow at Tata’s passing, describing him as someone who will be “dearly missed” and honoring him as a rare combination of a successful businessman and a genuine human being.
