London:Prosecutors in the murder case of 10-year-old Sara Sharif revealed that a hijab was used to conceal her injuries. Sara began wearing a hijab in January 2023, seven months before her death. A neighbor noted this was unusual, as no one else in the household wore a hijab. Sara’s father, Irfan Sharif, stepmother, Beinash Batool, and uncle, Faisal Malik, are accused of her murder.
Sara’s primary school noticed facial injuries in June 2022 and March 2023, but she provided inconsistent explanations. In April 2023, she was removed from school and homeschooled. Neighbors reported hearing violent sounds and a child’s screams from the house.
Evidence presented to the London’s Old Bailey court included Sara’s DNA found on various household items, including a cricket bat, iron rod, and belt, suggesting she endured severe abuse. Batool had texted her sisters, claiming Irfan had beaten Sara so badly she couldn’t walk. In another message, Batool said Sara’s injuries were too visible for her to attend school.

Sara suffered two spinal fractures, burns on her hips, bite marks, and a severe head injury. The three defendants deny murder charges but face accusations of causing or allowing her death.
