Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez extended his congratulations to the Pakistani team for their remarkable Test series victory over England but simultaneously shared a message stirring some controversy.
The ex-Test cricketer celebrated the team for securing a home series win after more than three years. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “The outstanding performances of Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali played a crucial role in Pakistan’s victory over England. More significantly, their performances have exposed many faces.”
Following Pakistan’s defeat in the first Test, Hafeez had been vocal in his criticism of the national team, suggesting that they were struggling to find a win even on home turf.
However, after Pakistan’s comeback and the series win, Hafeez posted on social media, “Credit goes to the new selectors who took on the challenge of making tough decisions. Well done!”
In another tweet, Hafeez highlighted individual players, noting: “Special mention: Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Kamran Ghulam, and Shan Masood are all top performers at the domestic level.”
With Pakistan ultimately defeating England 2-1 in the three-match Test series, and winning the third Test by nine wickets, Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali’s contributions were indeed pivotal. Both bowlers delivered impressive spells, with Sajid Khan known for his control and variation in spin and Nauman Ali praised for his relentless accuracy and skill in targeting the opposition’s weaknesses. Their performance not only led Pakistan to a historic series win but also underscored the significance of nurturing local talent and trusting domestic players for international competitions.
