A Pakistani-Canadian businessman, Rahat Rao, was set ablaze by a man in Canada’s Surrey and is in critical condition in hospital.
As per sources, Rahat Rao was involved in many protests after the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June last year.
Rahat Rao has a forex business in the Surrey Central area. According to sources, a person came to Rahat’s office for alleged money exchange work, set him on fire, and ran away. Rao is a member of the Canadian-Pakistani community.
He was hospitalized, and his condition is critical. According to sources, Rao is not an agent of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s intelligence agency, contrary to the propaganda spreading in Indian media.
Rao was very active in Canadian politics and the Asian community and was continuously involved in many protests after the death of Nijjar in June last year.
On June 18 last year, Nijjar was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey. His name had been included in a list released by the Indian government with 40 other ‘designated terrorists’.
His death sparked a major diplomatic row between India and Canada after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last September alleged a potential involvement of Indian government agents in the killing of the Khalistani terrorist.
