There have been many allegations over the years that the rich women in prison in Karachi can pay there way to any number of privileges including the ability to leave the prison for a little while. This issue has previously prompted the filing of an application in the Sindh High Court, highlighting the perceived disparity in the treatment of rich and poor inmates.
However, those fears have again been raised now regarding the case of Natasha Danish, an inmate that has allegedly been treated with “kid gloves” in prison. While official prison reports paint a different picture, insider sources have suggested that the reality might be far from what is being officially stated.
Natasha Danish’s Living Arrangements in Jail
According to media reports quoting sources within the prison, Natasha Danish is not being held in the general population with other prisoners. She is not in a regular cell in the women’s jail, but instead in a special section used for inmates being psychologically tested. This ward, which resembles a hospital setting with proper beds, is located before the main area where the general inmate population is held.
It is reported that Natasha Danish has been provided with a bed in this ward and has not been transferred to the regular prisoners’ ward since her judicial custody began. That has caused some rumor that her prison time is easier than it would be for a normal inmate.
Allegations of Freedom and Facilities
According to prison insiders, Natasha Danish has a lot of freedom in prison. Supposedly she can roam around certain areas and is not bound by the same restrictions as the other prisoners.
The list of amenities reportedly provided to her includes a bed, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a microwave oven, and access to home-cooked meals, pickles, chocolates, and even Wi-Fi. These reports have caused an uproar with many wondering if the law is being applied the same to all inmates.
Public Outcry and Legal Implications
The allegations against the jail authorities have once again brought to the forefront the issue of inequality within the prison system. If that is the case, then that is a complete mockery of the justice system, because in essence it would mean that money and power could serve as a way around the pain of jail.
But with the public outcry growing, there are demands for a full investigation of the matter. However, the Sindh High Court which has been approached on similar matters in the past, will be forced to do more to make sure that all prisoners whether rich, poor, influential, uninfluential are all treated the same under the law.
