To make things clear, Zainab explained that her marriage was rooted in love, and her former husband was extremely aggressive on the aspect of wanting to marry her. However, she noted that in her efforts to see him she hadn’t taken the time to fully review his past. The last one – she only learns the truth that he was already married when they get married; this is something that the family of the girl finds out before and because of that, they refuse the marriage.
Despite her family’s disapproval she was very determined and decided to marry him. She convinced them to agree to her decision a decision which she now regrets ever having made. Her former husband became even more abusive after they got married and became a problem for her in as much as her working life was concerned. He also often refused to accompany her to movie locations, reminding people when he became emotional during particular scenes.
Zainab recalls one event clearly, in which she was shooting a scene where she had to hold her co-star’s hand on the shore. She watched her former husband back off a little distance from her and sob, and both of them – Zainab and the director – felt uncomfortable. The tension was great, and the director could see it, and told Zainab saying ‘Oh no my lady that was wrong; you are now married to me, a man, and the position you take now is difficult.’
Zainab’s revelations have opened the floodgate in terms of discussing the challenges and pressures faced by women in the entertainment industry based on their own experiences. The story that she narrates is an important one that underscores the importance of the need to take time whenever one, wants to make a decision that will bring a change in one’s life and the support of family in making such decisions.
