Finally Malam Jabba gets record 12 inches of snowfall

Islamabad, Pakistan – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning regarding potential transportation disruptions due to anticipated snowfall over the upper regions of the country on January 30-31 in location Malam Jabba.

Tourists are advised to exercise caution during this period. A westerly wave is currently impacting the western and upper parts of the country, expected to persist over the next few days.

Most areas of the country will experience mainly cold weather, with cloud cover in the upper parts. Rainfall accompanied by snowfall in mountainous regions is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, Kashmir, and surrounding hilly areas. Shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist in certain plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

Over the last 24 hours, cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed in most areas, with rainfall occurring in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Fog and smog affected plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

Recorded rainfall during this period includes Dir (Upper 32mm, Lower 04), Pattan 28, Kalam 20, Malam Jabba 19, Saidu Sharif 15, Balakot 13, Chitral 10, Parachinar 09, Mir Khani 07, Drosh 05, Kakul 03, Mardan 02. In Kashmir: Muzaffarabad (City 12, Airport 07), Rawalakot 10, Garhidupatta 09, Kotli 03. In Punjab: Murree 04, Islamabad (A/P 01). In Gilgit-Baltistan: Astore 04, Gupis 02, and Bagrote 01.

Snowfall recorded during this period includes Malam Jabba 12 inches, Kalam 11, Astore, and Murree 01 inch. The lowest temperatures recorded were Kalam -06°C, Malam Jabba, Gupis -04°C, Astore, and Hunza -03°C.
