Publishers from Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan will participate in the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair without incurring any fees.
This decision follows the directive of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Under the leadership of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, the initiative aims to alleviate the hardships facing Arab publishers. It seeks to provide meaningful support to those navigating exceptional challenges, including economic difficulties and restrictions.
The exemption aligns with Sharjah’s ongoing commitment to championing Arab literature and culture on the global stage. Despite the obstacles that publishers in these regions encounter, the emirate’s efforts highlight the importance of solidarity within the publishing industry.
Sheikha Bodour stressed the importance of unity to reinforce the Arab publishing sector and ensure the preservation and growth of Arab cultural heritage.
By waiving fees, the initiative further solidifies Sharjah’s dedication to sustaining the resilience of the publishing sector, which plays a key role in spreading knowledge and fostering awareness within society.The 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair will take place from November 6 to 17, celebrating the theme ‘It Starts with a Book.’
