Another check on Information Minister: PM Imran Khan appoints Yousaf Baig Mirza as Special Assistant on Media Affairs


Yousaf Baig Mirza has been appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Imran Khan on Media Affairs.

A notification to this effect has been issued by the Cabinet Division. Yousaf Baig Mirza’s appointment as PM’s special assistant on media is in an honourary capacity, the notification added. Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Iftikhar Durrani is also PM’s Special Assistant on Media.

Social media also had mix feeling on this appointment:

Yousaf Baig Mirza has held the position of Managing Director (MD) at PTV three times under three different regimes. His tenure at PTV is regarded as the most successful period in the State channel’s history with dynamic initiatives that produced rewarding results.

Furthermore Baig Mirza played a vital role in the launch of Dunya News as part of the launch team and as its MD; his myriad efforts again bringing positive results within a short period of time of its launch. Baig Mirza was also the founding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Channel 92 HD heading the start-up team and successfully launching the channel again in a very short period as he did with GEO Super. He also enjoyed a brief stint as CEO Express Media Group, heading the Group’s electronic and print media entities. His unprecedented success of launching and stabilising new channels in a fierce market, have triggered the confidence in Mr Baig to prove himself once again and this time another name to his remarkable portfolio: ‘Public News’ a channel created with supreme work ethic is successfully on-air.

A pioneer of the Private-Public Media Partnership which has benefitted most of the private sector channels up and running today, Yousaf Baig Mirza was awarded the ‘Media Man of Decade’ award by Advertising Association of Pakistan.
